Osteopathy

Osteopathy was originally a form of manual or physical therapy originally devised to treat all kinds of disease but is now primarily seen as a treatment for muscle and joint problems. It aims to promote optimal health and remove barriers to healing by ensuring that the physical structure of the body (mainly the muscles, joints, nerves and internal organs) is in its best possible condition.

Amongst other conditions, Osteopathy has been shown to be beneficial in treating:

| Muscle tension, spasms or cramps

| Neck, back & joint aches or pains

| Arthritic & Rheumatic pain

| Minor sports injuries

| Lumbago & sciatica

| Headaches

Following a consultation and a diagnosis being made, treatments can include:

| Sports Massage Techniques (which may involve using cream or oil)

| Gentle, rhythmical, rocking movements of the limbs & torso

| Mobilisation of joints

| ‘Manipulation’ of joints (which may produce a ‘popping’ sound)

| Assisted stretching

| Dietary, postural & life-style advice

| Work on the internal organs (viscera), if considered necessary.

| Exercise prescription
